In 2020, increased fears around the escalation of abuse cases during the COVID-19 lockdown became a reality, and with every announcement made by President Ramaphosa, the message was clear: we must all play our part in fighting the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV), and do our utmost to help protect the rights of the women and children.

As a business, we heeded the call and sprang into action. As our customers, so did you! Our limited edition, Help! Don’t Harm, Markham T’s, made in collaboration with Boineelo Modise (Neelo), went on sale in October last year. Within just 3 months, we raised over half a million rand (R500 000) as a donation to Sonke Gender Justice NPO. That’s almost 6000 T-shirts sold in support of this awesome organisation! Our goal is to reach R860 000 and we’re close so watch this space!

As a non-profit organisation, Sonke Gender Justice relies greatly on donations from the public and private sectors, and we know that our contribution will go a long way in supporting their incredibly important work of with victims of GBV in communities across South Africa.

As a nation of South African men – Markham’s men – we call on you to pledge to live a life of no violence, and to continue supporting this initiative which, in turn, supports worthy non-profit organisations such as Sonke Gender Justice.

Our #MKMCrew recently handed over the cheque to the team from Sonke Gender Justice.

When we launched this initiative, we asked our customers to stand with us in our pledge to end GBV. We are exceptionally proud of how supportive our customers have been since we launched our initiative.
