The Style Edit: Spring 23 Trends Part 1

The boundaries of style have been set and the trend items for the season have been cemented. From dopamine hits to tonal dressing, here is the first half of the top trends that you need to follow to stay in style for Spring ’23.

Trend 1: Dopamine Hits

The stay-at-home gear of the pandemic era is over, and we now introduce colour pops and full-colour ‘fits.  The trend has gone technicoloured with bright hues and sizzling shades taking over. These are often interpreted into all-over prints, large graphics and sometimes as simple as a single colour. This spring, you can show off your personality in acid yellows and neon pinks to bright oranges – it’s up to you how much colour you want to indulge in.

Trend 2: Open Collars

Casual yet refined, the open collar shirt is the perfect layering piece that offers an elevated take on a buttoned polo. Cuban shirts and revere collars in solid muted shades and subtle colourblock designs are go-to’s for this season. It can be worn as is or under a lightweight jacket.

The Trend 3: Modern Utility

The utility trend is here to stay, and that means pockets. Lots of pockets. Think military-inspired pieces that offer function but are elevated by modern fabrics for a more stylish take on the otherwise rugged trend. Key pieces go  from head to toe including boonie hats, cargo pants, vests and jackets with utility and workwear accents coming through in shirts, tees, denim and chunky soled footwear.

Trend 4: Summer Knits

Knits and summer may not seem like a practical pairing, but if done right, summer knitwear will carry you through warm days into cool nights with ease. Go for fine knits in breathable fabrics with extra points for interesting weaves like waffle, ribbed, or open textures in classic summer silhouettes like open collar shirts and crew neck tees.

Editor’s Choice: Knit Crew Sweater

This season, menswear breaks boundaries and rules with bold colors and open knits. Men confidently express themselves through vibrant hues and unconventional choices, challenging traditional masculinity. It’s a season of sartorial liberation, where men embrace their individuality and take pride in their fashion choices.
