Where’s your head at?

Modern life is full of a whole host of conveniences and abundance, but the trade-off is that our fast-paced, always-on lifestyle can take a toll on our mental and physical well-being. While physical ailments can be easy to spot and treat, mental health is not as easy to pinpoint – or to talk about.

With the darkest days of winter behind us and spring an imminent prospect, use the transition as a catalyst for your own change.

Acknowledging and dealing with your feelings

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or like you could do with a little shoulder to lean on, seek one out. There’s no shame in asking for help. Far too often manageable issues become large when they go unresolved for too long.

For this reason, it’s crucial that you identify whatever problems you have that need to be dealt with and address them. Running away will never solve a problem but facing it can often lead to growth and positive habit forming for the future.

Be well

Self-care has been used so frequently lately that it has begun to lose some of its potency.

While face masks and massages can be a treat, try to aim for something less superficial and impermanent when improving your mental health –  Engage in a new hobby, something that engages your mind and body.

The aim is not to become the best, just better. Tiny habits and incremental gains can mean lifelong improvements, which is far more realistic than aiming for giant leaps in progress.

Here are a few suggestions on how to look for help when you need it

  1.  Connect with your support system of loved ones
  2. Take time out; there’s no shame in asking for a day or even a week off when needed.
  3. Although it is sometimes difficult to accept help when it is offered – if someone can lighten your load, don’t hesitate to accept the offer.
  4. Know that there is free professional help if you need it – call SADAG’s 24hr Helpline 0800 456 789 for free telephonic counselling, information, referrals and resources seven days a week, 24 hours a day or so reach out to a professional.

Look the part

As the old saying goes ‘dress for the job [life] you want, not the job [life] you have. A more balanced and fulfilling life is the goal we’re all striving for.

While those internal changes make up the bulk of truly significant personal growth, looking the part can be the perfect catalyst for starting the journey towards self-improvement too.

Luckily, our spring wardrobe offers various ways for you to express yourself. Our first theme is the Sweet 70s. This retro-inspired collection features bold florals and bright colours – versatile statement pieces that are easy to dress up or down, be casual or smart.

Our Major League collection also takes styling cues from the 70s but incorporates more of a sporty edge. Think tailored trousers with a relaxed waistband and bomber jackets that are both refined yet casual.

Life will always come with challenges but it’s how you prepare yourself, every day, in small and large ways that make all the difference.
