Saying I do to the perfect wedding suit

Tying the knot is one of life’s most significant moments. The outfit you choose for your special day – from the ceremony to the photographs, the speeches to the party – needs to be top tier, while reflecting the occasion and your personality too. This does not have to mean stuffy, serious or traditional – as style icon Inés de la Fressange said, ‘the secret of great style is to feel comfortable in what you wear’.
With a world of options available – depending on the setting, the budget, your personality, and the time of the year – we offer some guidance on how to navigate picking the perfect wedding attire for your big day.
Suit up
If there is one time to wear a tuxedo, it’s at your wedding. The gold standard in formal attire, and a guaranteed way to make you look – and feel – your best, there’s just something about a tuxedo that elevates the style game.
If a tuxedo isn’t for you, but you’re still traditionally inclined, then opting for a classic three-piece suit is the way to go. Aside from ensuring you look dashing on your big day, a three-piece suit has some functional benefits that make it an easy choice. The waistcoat, for one, will help you look sharp even when you take your jacket off, and it’ll keep your shirt from coming undone well into the early hours.
Fix your fit
The fit is the most important thing to consider when choosing your suit. A well-fitted suit will enhance your features and ensure comfort throughout the long and epic day. Many suits will fit perfectly straight off the rack, but if you need any tucks or tweaks, a tailor is your best friend.
Dress for the season
Personal style may take a slight back seat to practicality depending on when your wedding is taking place. Winter is going to require something warmer and more heavyweight (think: wool and wool blends), while in spring and summer cotton and linen are your best bet for a casual-meets-chic look (that’ll keep you cool).
Pick your colour
The formality of your wedding and proceedings may signal the colours you choose to don for the big day. Black tie or smart occasions usually call for darker colours. Having said that, if things are a little less formal (but no less stylish), throw caution to the wind and go for whatever colour or pattern you gravitate towards.
This day comes around but once in a lifetime – and those wedding photos live forever! Longevity is also important to factor into your colour choice, though. As beautiful as a white linen suit might look at your wedding, if you want to get the most out of it, perhaps opt for a colour that you may get more wear out of.

Go with your gut when it comes to picking out your wedding attire.
Most important is that you feel like a million bucks – pick well and your outfit will give you one less thing to feel nervous about, so that you can focus on enjoying one of the most important days of your life.
